Partners were never allowed in with you, weird but I’ve been getting them a long time and have never been allowed my husband in the room.

It really depends on where you are in your cycle how painful it ends up being, but if you’re worried about that take some ibuprofen about 20 minutes before your appointment, and you’ll likely experience some cramping afterwards so a hot water bottle for later is a good idea. They’ll probably offer you a cuppa or some diluting juice afterwards since your blood pressure might dip, so I suggest taking something sweet to munch on afterwards too.

I’ve had appointments at both Sandyford and Stobhill and honestly Sandyford have been much better in terms of getting it sorted quickly but not painfully. The Stobhill doctor was a damn sadist, I ended up being held down by 2 nurses while she jammed it up there (wasn’t expecting insertion on that appointment so hadn’t taken painkillers). She must have known the pain I experienced was normal for her method and had them come in, first time it wasn’t just me and the person doing the procedure. That was on her though, and I’ve refused to go back since. Sandyford all the way.
