re. your point about emailing MSPs, I think energy is a reserved matter (i.e. not under the control of Scottish parliament/government) so your MP would technically be the correct person to contact.
I messaged mine a while ago, text below:

> I'm sure you're aware of the significant rises in energy costs this year, I have personally been affected by this, and fortunately so far my family have been able to cope with the cost but am very concerned this situation will worsen during the rest of this year and further into the future. I would be very grateful if you could use your position in parliament to help alleviate these problems either through supporting relevant legislation, liaising with OFGEM, or any other way possible.
>
> Particularly concerning are the standing charges consumers pay, no matter what amount of gas or electricity is used. These disproportionately affect the people who use the least energy, including those in poverty, and also those who have managed to reduce their energy use for any other reason (to lessen their impact on the environment, for example). It would be very welcome if such charges were banned, and the shortfall made up on the per-unit charges.
>
> I am writing to you assuming that as energy issues are the responsibility of the Westminster parliament, I should be contacting my MP as opposed to an MSP; please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't expect this to have much effect, but the more people that contact their politicians, they might start doing more about it.
