I tried a bit of both to be honest, SSAFA is the main military charity people contact but they assign a case worked who is overrun with people. They also tend to help the homeless veterans first, not saying they shouldn't but it means the ones who are barely getting by get kind of left behind.
Also the second I try to work, they cut benefits so right now it doesn't make it any easier. Because I'm unemployed and claiming UC, we get the council tax exemption, but the second I try to work they remove the exemption and I end up worse off. If I work over 12 hours I also lose the carers allowance, and would have to pay out of pocket for care for my dad. It's impossible to save up, they tell you they can support you but leave you behind. |
