It will stop working but worrying about this just now when the phone lines are jam packed is unnecessary. We are in the middle of a huge freeze so the only thing that is red hot is the phone system. If it's not urgent then don't call them.
The old Radio Teleswitch meters will stop working in March 2023. It's nothing to do with Economy 7 or the tariffs. This old type of meter generally operate storage heaters and switches on at a preset time in the evening by radio control.
The retirement of the service coincides with the end of the Radio 4 Longwave service. Apparently the BBC still use a valve transmitter for this service. They only have two valves left and are not planning on having any more of them manufactured. |
