| Comment | I grew up in Lincoln, and the Lincoln Bands website and forum was pretty much the only way to get gigs.
Every band in the city, past and present, was documented on there with all the discographies and bios, and every band worth their salt was on the forum chatting so that they could make connections, reply to the occasional "band needed for X at Y, genres: A/B/C" posts, and announce their new EPs/merch/MySpace uploads. People would review one another's songs, collaborate, and for a tiny city where only one or two venues even had their own PA system it was a massive draw. The site was run by one guy and all!
I was genuinely surprised when I moved here in 2008 that there wasn't an equivalent hub here. Still a bit surprised that there isn't even now - I know websites and forums are probably passé but it seems like an obviously useful thing. I have no web knowledge myself or I'd make one. Surely someone out there might be game? |
