It’s technically illegal but if you’ve been accepted somewhere I’d maybe go for it anyway? In the current state of affairs with the housing crisis it’s a miracle to even get a viewing. Plus you will get that money back if they don’t go ahead with you. And if they don’t then you have grounds to go to the housing tribunal to ask for it back.
I personally have paid holding deposits before but never before a viewing. It’s a bit much but you may at least get a flat at the end of it.
