Comment | Some Glasgow shipbuilders sold vessels to the Confederacy to beat the blockades enforced by the North as they were losing out on cotton which was huge to the Scottish/British economy.
On an individual level, there were hundreds if not thousands of Glaswegians and Scots who fought for the South. In fairness, it was the same for the Union. It’s quite a dark piece of Scottish history which isn’t often discussed. |
