Glasgow Live and websites like it sum up the last 20 years of journalistic decline in the UK.

When you work at one of these places it's about maximising content and writing as much as you can churn out in eight hours so that your employer can get their moneys worth.

Why would a news editor let you work on a days/weeks/months long investigation off diary that could expose wrongdoing or shine a light on real issues people are facing when they could get eight articles a day out of you based on a picture of the back of Kevin Bridges' head? Numbers tell them that's what will get clicks and engagement because you get the usual "how is this news" which is, I can tell you from firsthand experience, generally ignored. An angry, frustrated click is, in their eyes, still a click. If they engage: even better.

So take on the game not the player. Instead of putting links to things like this and asking how it's news, stop paying any attention to it whatsoever. Don't read it. Don't click it. Don't engage with it. When you see a good story anywhere share it, click it, read it, engage with it. If news outlets see that's what is getting hits and engagement they will do more of it.

The answer is simple, they write this because people click, read and engage. If you don't like it, don't read it and get your news elsewhere. I recommend the Sunday Post (buy the actual physical newspaper) and The Ferret.
