It can be really rewarding, but unbelievably stressful... we got a puppy early this year. He's calmed down a lot, but still a bit restless, all fine young dog stuff, and we manage perfectly well.

But my partner is back down South to see family for Christmas just now, and even these last two days of being the only one watching the dog have been really time-consuming and stressful at times. It's easy to forget until it's all on you.

I love the wee guy, but to be completely honest, if I could go back and rethink it, I would. I'd wait until I was a bit more settled, maybe mid-thirties.

Your mileage may vary, but the biggest warning I can give is: your time is rarely completely yours anymore. Like, goodbye long lies on a Saturday morning. That might be just what you want, tho!
