Don't shop, adopt.

Having said they, most rescues are incredibly fussy and would rather keep a dog than let it live in a home that isn't 100% perfect.

So do your research on the breeder, make sure they are not a puppy farmer (meet them at their home, see the mother, check all the paperwork, check if they will accept the pup back etc).

Puppies are *a lot* of work. You will be getting up through the night to help them pee. They will need obedience training and stimulation, not just a walk, but also sleep.

This is one advantage of adoption as the dogs tend to be a bit older. But you can be inheriting problems. Again, obedience etc etc.

(Both of ours are adopted.)

Sorry, can't advise on day care etc as being telecommuters we are almost always at home.
