Comment | I think you have received great advice as to why and why not get a dog, maybe why a cat could be a good fit and so on. I think the best thing you can do is to try something like "borrow my doggy" or maybe try and create a profile in Rover and sit/board a dog for a couple of days or weeks, so you can get a sense of the time responsibilities as well as the big change in your life. If you like it and think it is a good match for you and your lifestyle, then think about the long term commitments. Best of luck, dogs are great!
