I just don't buy this. I've been to a lot of places in Europe that have lower traffic in their city centres and it's likely because the public transport is actually a viable alternative. Hamburg, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome all massively better and probably more complicated to run in cities of their size. I'm from Castlemilk and used to work in Bellshill. I can get there door to door driving in 15 minutes.

If I did a Saturday nightshift and finished at 7am Sunday morning, I wouldn't get home until 10am because of shite service to the industrial park I worked in, Sunday service and shite transport links making me have to get 3 buses. 7am on a Sunday morning is hardly a wacky/wild time, a ton of people work 7 days a week these days. The world isn't Monday to Friday anymore.

This was the thing that spurred me to learn to drive and get a car. Who the fuck wants to make a 15 minute journey a 3 hour one for the sake of lower emissions?

There's plenty of public transport issues that can be resolved at the moment without having an adverse affect on cars. Even trains are a shitshow in Scotland and are a public laughing stock. A lot of people value their spare time enough to not want to have a 2 hour commute when a car could do it in half the time or less.
