Cars are also just shitty for infrastructure and efficiency. I'm not in favour of an outright ban but designing our settlements around them is disastrous.
As someone in the west end who has frequently had to cross to the east, by vehicle and foot, it's a complicated mess. The M8 is extremely practical for those wishing to come into Glasgow from the outside but a fucking pain for those actually in it.
Trusting individual responsibility tends to fail. That's why we had to have enforced lockdowns, why we have drink driving laws and licensing in the first place.
I don't see that we would. Bypasses have managed to be built around enough other cities. |
