Comment | Yes that is all true but the testing is to ensure the tariff is correct and the meter is measuring distance correctly. The council testing has no interest in what the actual totals are, only that the meter is being used correctly under the conditions you mentioned.
There is profile recorded that can be set up for each driver. They can just be wiped out and reset at anytime.
The meter will have a lifetime recording of total miles, total hired miles and total fares, but by the time a tax enquiry comes it is almost useless, because there could have been multiple drivers using the cab. Tax enquiries can come years later.
If somebody was fiddling their numbers over they could then simply say their meter broke and go out and replace the whole unit. |
