The car rental market has changed massively in the last couple of years for obvious reasons. It’s much more expensive now, but if you only want it the odd weekend then it’s obviously still cheaper than full ownership.

There used to be deals for weekend rentals as a big part of their custom was business users that had them Mon-Fri then they’d sit in the yard all weekend doing nothing.

I have a car but sometimes still rent out cars for road trips. Especially when going to festivals and things. It reduces personal liability. And less hassle when splitting costs between a group or adding extra drivers.

Most rental companies have loyalty programmes where you accumulate perks and get free or discounted rentals.

Pricing is dynamic like hotels and flights. It has hundreds of factors that affect price. You really need to just do a bit of searching and comparing on the dates you need.
