Repeating my usual comment:

In August 1890, The Glasgow District Subway Company was given authority to build a 6.5 mile pair of concrete/iron-lined tunnels, 15 stations, a continuous moving clutch and cable system, and 20 single carriage trains. It opened on December 14 1896, 6 years and 137 days later.

On 4th March 2016, Stadler Bussnang and Ansaldo STS were awarded the contract for the supply of 17 driverless trains. That was 6 years and 310 days ago.
