Comment | Actually the push to create as much housing as possible (in the form of high rises) was led by a left-wing campaigner called [David Gibson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Gibson_(British_politician) in the 1950s, he fought hard to create better housing for workers in Glasgow. People were desperate to leave the slums and get houses with indoor toilets, and by all accounts the quality of the housing was amazing in the beginning.
Unfortunately, the incentives given to the building companies in the 50s meant these blocks were built too densely and the communities lacked things to do like cinemas, shops etc. The result was a lot of the social problems of the slums were migrated into the new housing and nothing was improved |
