| Comment | Ah I see. Loosening the vehicle requirements could be a solution. The police were actually putting people in private hire vehicles to clear the city one night.
I don’t think it would be a quick fix though. Probably a decision that would get tied up for years in legal challenges from current taxi drivers who had to sit knowledge tests and buy more expensive vehicles.
Also deregulation has been a threat for years but it doesn’t suit certain people within the council that own taxi plates. As long as the taxi numbers are restricted, the taxi plates have a black market value in the many thousands. It’s likely to face fierce opposition internally and externally. |
