From the article it sounds like the Taxi Owners association is against the rise.
The fares are set by the council and rises are calculated based on cost increases of owning and operating a vehicle.
Electric vehicles carry a higher initial cost - £65k in the case of a taxi. If they all have to buy £65k motors it’s not going to decrease the cost of the fares.
The (free) public charging network is also not designed or set up to be the sole method of charging for everyone. It’s supposed to support and supplement home charging. |
