Sorry you're going through this, I had recently had to go through the process with an in-law who refused to believe anything was wrong so it took a long time to get them to the GP.

The first step is getting them to a GP who should perform some simple memory tasks with them and have a chat with you. If they refuse to go you can ask the GP to invite them to attend the clinic for "a check up" or something else just to get them through the door.

Once the GP has seen what they need then they may suggest an MRI scan (long wait for this) and a social worker type person will visit the premises too. Its quite a long slog, once they get on the medication then they calm down a bit.

Alzheimer's Scotland are very helpful if you give them a ring, theres quite a lot of resources online too. Subs like r/AgingParents r/AlzheimersSupport r/dementia are super helpful too.
