Comment | At one point a while back I lived in a group of houses where we found that the lead level in the tapwater was above legal limits, and figured out it was because there was a short stretch of old communal lead water piping that had never been removed and was decaying, so we arranged a council grant to get it dug up and replaced. Zero cost to residents.
I shit you not, a couple of residents actively tried to block the work from happening, on the basis that "it's never been a problem before" and "things should just be left alone".
It's the Presbyterian attitude in a nutshell: change is bad, and change *for the better* is even worse, because it means someone somewhere getting something they don't deserve. |
