The Millennium Building was horrible. I worked in the basement of it for a year before our manager kicked up fuck and had our team moved to a vacant classroom on the 7th floor of the main tower. That was a massive improvement (apart from the lift situation).
You're right - it is listed. The construction method they used was quite unusual. It's a steel structure that supports itself. The stone on the outside is just stuck on - it's not structural at all. Same with all the internal walls - they don't go above the ceiling tiles.
It's not just the building that's listed - it's also the structures on the roof. They're listed separately.
Another reason it won't be demolished - it's way too close to the Queen Street Low Level line. |
