I think you make a good case here.

I don't disagree with you exactly but I also think you can resolve this discussion into like an ethical disagreement.

I think in the big sense tipping shouldn't be nesseccary because everywhere should pay a living wage so we agree there.

I think on a personal scale though, "you" should tip because you shouldn't ever use a big systematic discussion as an answer to a personal moral question. Its changing the conversation.

Its like when people bring up death of the Author as an excuse to keep buying Harry Potter merch. You can still buy the stuff there is no ethical consumption under capitalism; its just the intellectual dishonesty that bothers me.

I think people should have the guts to say "I'm not going to tip because I don't want to" or "I can't really afford to tip I'm only eating here because I don't have time to get home and cook." or whatever. Personal answers to a personal question.

So like "you should tip; we shouldn't have to" sort of thing.
