Not rude. I ask staff what the policy is on this and tips, if they get them then I pay it. If not they get removed.

Had a restuarant the other week try to include a mandatory £1 charity donation on their bills now too. Had that removed pronto, not because I am a dick but I just don't agree with these hidden/guilt tripping actions. They obviously work which is why they are adopted as policy which is what I am against as opposed to tipping/charity which is and should be discretionary.

Those guys and girls who work in hospitality, dealing with the public and often in uncomfortable working conditions you couldn't pay me enough to do, I'll tip like I'm some sort of uber-American.
