People are mostly very lovely and friendly.

It takes the same amount of time to go tona forest for a walk as go to the middle of city centre to see a gig. Both are a possibility for a random weekend, don't need to take days off or pay extra for a hostel room because it's within a bus or train ride.

My plants *love* scottish tapwater, they grew like two inches in 6 months (was about a quarter of that in Kent).

Small businesses, like little shops, cafés, restaurants, bars ran by people who are enthusiastic about their thing.
