I also use the train a lot, so I'm not the person you replied to. But my view on people not using the train is just that being near a train station isn't a luxury for everyone and if you can't walk to a train station in 10 minutes or so it becomes a lot less of a convenience.

Looking at where I am, I can get to a train station in less than 5 minutes walking so it's great, even if they are just every half hour, you can plan your journey nice and easily and go home if there's a cancellation. However if I was to move to , for example, parts of Ralston, it could be a 20-25 minute walk to a train station. If that was the case I'd rarely use it, with a walk of that length the opportunities for it to take longer go up (adding a minute or so if crossing busy roads) so you need to leave earlier and earlier, and so leaving half an hour or more before your train arrives in the weather we have just isn't an option people will go for.
