Comment | To be honest, I can't see it working here. In Germany the machines are only really in supermarkets, which gives them the defacto monopoly (you get a voucher for money off your shopping in that shop, or can get the cash for the returned bottles, etc back at the till.) There are very few shops like corner shops (closest would be a kiosk, which might accept returns but it'll probably be too much of a pain in the arse.) The machines often don't work properly, require the bottles and cans to be pretty much limited in terms of size and shape. Most of the cans and plastic bottles are shredded anyway despite the 25 cent pfand (charge you get back when you return it to the machine.) It definitely favours supermarkets over smaller shops. It's a good idea, but it needs to be thought through much more before it'll be workable here I think. We don't shop in the same way. We don't follow rules in the same way. Also, working behind those machines needs to well paid and well managed (it's not in Germany, a country that only got the minimum wage in the past few years.) I'd love to see it as a workable system, but I don't think a return scheme will work here unfortunately. |
