They’ve used a Scots word for additional effect in their sentence. They’ve not used slang.
Glaikit is a bona fide word in Scots language. Slang is not the usage of words from other languages. For it to be considered slang it either has to be common misuse of an existing word from the same language (eg: lit/fire/salty) or it has to be an entirely new word (eg: yeet).
I get where you’re coming from as the usage of Scots has been sneered upon from the political and educational establishment for the last century at least. We have long been institutionalised to believe that it’s not a proper language and just slang. |
