Chica is a slang word in Spanish. Hombre can also be used as slang in Spanish. It means man but can also be used like we currently use ‘dude’. Although in its original historical context dude was not slang.

Glaikit is not a slang word in Scots. It has a fixed meaning. People using it are borrowing a Scots word. The meaning has never changed over time.

Honestly if it’s something you’re interested in it is a really active current area of study as Scots language is having a resurgence in popularity.

Lots of it has long been miscategorised as slang- which is what I was taught at school in the 1990s. But our understanding of Scots and what has happened to it has changed following devolution and that is why there are more studies into Scots etymology than ever before.
