Comment | GPs are contracted to work for the NHS. This allows them a far greater earning capacity. Pandemic aside, this has always bugged me, as I see nurses doing triple (or more) of the amount of work that GPs do, often with just as good medical knowledge, for an absolute pittance.
I do understand their workload has increased by a huge amount. Since the pandemic, more people need to speak to their GP for various reasons, for example, struggling with orthopaedic pain while they wait on incredibly long waiting lists; problems with long covid; mental health problems (undoubtedly as a result of the pandemic and cost of living crisis); and there have been some nasty illnesses around this winter (to be expected due to lesser immunity due to living in lockdown).
It's a sorry mess. Primary Care needs re-evaluated. |
