I’ll be honest and prepare for the downvotes.

Personally, without knowing about funding allocations etc, I find it annoying to Constantly hear about trying to reduce emissions by adding / improving the cycling network. What I see is roads being chopped to add a cycle lane in which in turn actually increases congestion, and emissions. Emissions are reduced by reducing combustible engines. That’s fact. But in the world we live in right now, that’s not happening anytime soon, so having freer flowing traffic makes more sense to reduce emissions to a point.

Also seeing the complete state of the roads and money being spent on temporary repairs again and again but cycle lanes being planned and added constantly for an extremely small minority of the population, with no real evidence to suggest that there’s going to be a sudden uptake in cycling if we had an incredible network. It’s a culture change needed, not just lanes.

Also, and this is just from my experience, I’m not saying it’s city wide. The amount of cyclists that seem to have total disregard to the Highway Code is phenomenal. Go stand near a popular Uber eats type place on a Friday or Saturday and witness the madness. I’ve nearly hit a couple either going down 1 way streets wrongly and swinging out from between cars or cyclists on dark winters nights having dark clothes and no lights on the bikes. It’s madness. Yet if I nearly hit them, I’m in the wrong and they’re innocent in every way imaginable.
