There are vastly more car users than bike users, so of course that’s true. Car users are also very poor road users, that doesn’t detract from my statement. If you don’t train someone in how to do something, they’re not going to do it well, that shouldn’t be a controversial statement. A cyclist can still cause harm to other road users, especially pedestrians. I remember one incident I very narrowly avoided, stepping out of a building onto a pavement, a cyclist travelling at serious speed whizzed by me, lightly brushing me. Now if I’d stepped out a second earlier, he’d have smashed into me causing us both serious injury. If that had been a car, I’d have been able to get a reg plate and report it for dangerous driving. But it was a cyclist, so I couldn’t do anything. I’m fairly fit and able, but what if it had been an elderly or disabled person he’d hit? There was zero repercussions for him. Who knows if he’s since injured someone? Cyclists should be responsible road users. That requires management.
