Comment | I think people, the gov *and* the public, need to get their heads round the idea that a Public Transport Service is just that a *Service*. It shouldn't be designed to turn a profit as a primary or even secondary goal. The benefits to the economy of a region and the lives of the people who live there are well worth having a public utility that runs at a loss.
This *religion* of having services make 'good value for shareholders' is what is currently allowing price-gouging our energy prices using the war as an excuse, and it's the mindset they've been (successfully) insinuating into the NHS for the last two decades. |
