First Bus only “extract” money from the public in the same way ASDA or Primark do.
Public transport is deregulated so the marketplace is wide open to competitors. Anybody who is a fit and proper person and can meet the safety standards can register and operate a bus service. The fact not many do is because margins are so low. You can’t demand a company operates a loss making product.
The state of the transport network lies with the government authorities who have failed the public through deregulation and lack of funding. |
