If your looking for short term income, taxi driver is probably not the best idea.

Before you can apply for your licence you will have to complete an SVQ at a cost of £400-£450. Once you have the svq complete the licence will cost around £170. This process, svq and licence application, will take around 10 to 12 weeks, maybe longer.

Once you have the licence in place, renting a cab is the next hurdle. Private Hire cabs for rent are thin on the ground and most rental companies prefer you have experience as a cab driver.

As far as income is concerned, that depends on a few factors. Number of hours worked, when you work those hours, time of year etc. If you work 40-50 hours a week on day shift your probably going to average around £550 per week once expenses are covered. If you work weekend night shift you can make considerably more but you have to be able to cope with the madness that goes along with drunken clubbers etc.
