People did get dressed up to go into Glasgow. My mum (74) tells me that you basically wore your Sunday best to go shopping. When I was wee, I was always dressed up to go "into town", as my mum called it. It wasn't until the mid 80s, when I was about 10, that I was allowed to wear jeans to go into Glasgow!
