Climbed Ben Lomond two weeks ago. Snowline from 650metres. Some of path covered covered sheets of ice, esp above 650metres. Tread very carefully. Decent wind gusts. -7 oC on top. But slippy towards the top. I managed in trail runners/hiking shoes, but really wished I’d taken at least my YakTraks or microspikes. Took full winter gear. Hiking poles really helpful. Saw a couple of folk with crampons. Got to the top, but there is no shame in turning back

Have done some winter hiking before. Attended some winter skills courses at Glenmore, well worth it.

Also ask the folk coming down the hill, what it’s like, they might tell you what to expect or avoid.
