Re. density, I was meaning more the amount of gap sites and other brownfield areas in the city centre. Loads have been built on in the last 30+ years.
Part of the problem with cycle lanes is they don't all join up at the moment. We'd have had a far better crack at creating a properly integrated network if it had been getting built back then.
