>Surprised the council has never just dumped a lorry load of waste and went through it to see how much recycled material is within it.

I am sure when they dropped to 3 weekly there was a leaflet which said that roughly 70% of general waste was recyclable. However I have never been able to find the backing data on this despite asking my councillors if they can share this.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if that 70% number is true given the state of bins I see when out walking the dog (both looking at clean boxes hanging over the top of green bins and the amount of non-recyclables in blue bins). However I also like to keep in mind that cardboard/paper is very easily contaminated (especially when mixed with tins and plastic) and also we only recycle plastics 1 & 2 in Glasgow while a massive proportion of packaging and plastic products in shops are plastic number 5, so keen to know the breakdown of plastics that are found in general waste to know if they can actually be recycled with GCC's current resources or they are just saying "well that can be recycled *somewhere* so we'll count it".
