| Comment | Totally agree about the number of bad drivers out there and it's something I've become more acutely aware of in the past 8 months or so I've been driving a car myself. Spent over 25 years on 2 wheels (motorbike) and only went for my driving license last year at 48 y/o. Riding a bike, I ride like everyone is a fanny out to kill me / don't see me and that defensive riding saved my skin many a time. What really surprised me is having to also drive like everyone is a fanny and don't see me as well.
All that said, I've had 100's of near misses over the years with pedestrians on the bike that were 100% their fault and more than a few of them would have been contact if I'd been in the car. Far worse this past 5+ years when 90% of the younger generation walk about with their eyes on the phone and not paying attention to what's around them. |
