He was charged and already it went to court hence my use of the term acquitted. He did run over the pedestrian in the junction but was found not guilty in what was essentially a case of jury nullification. It was an accident so I don't think he should be buried under the jail but he should absolutely never be allowed to drive again. That seems sensible.
