I suppose the people you refer to just teleported there or every one of them walked from where they live to get there? Come on, at least be serious with your arguments. Losing cars to the city centre will undoubtedly lead to a massive fall in footfall for business UNLESS there's a proper fit for purpose alternative public transport alternative. We don't even have a fit for purpose pubic transport system just now let alone one to cope with massively increased numbers and one that has been expanded massively so it's convenient for people to access.

Even with major investment there's still going to be significant numbers of people who would be left without easy access to public transport that would take them to the city centre so there needs to be a total rethink / development of park & ride so those that need to drive to access public transport.

A car free city centre only works if access to it is convenient enough for enough people to sustain the businesses in it. Can't see too many folk willing to get soaked to the skin and spend and hour or more faffing about on various buses just to get to the city centre to have a browse, maybe buy a couple of odds and ends and a bite to eat etc. No, these folk would just shop online and drive somewhere if they wanted to eat out.
