I cycle a lot in town and I have had many close calls. Out on a bike you are more aware of your surroundings. You don’t have the same distractions like in a car such as the radio or a passenger talking to you. You are more likely to see danger ahead and see it coming because you are moving much more slowly.
In any case a cyclist has a much lower burden of responsibility on the road simply based on vehicle size and weight which directly relates to the amount of damage that can be inflicted on humans as stated in the new Highway Code.
On any occasions when I have found myself on a collision course with a pedestrian I am usually able to stop and any impact if it occurs is just minimal with both parties simply getting on their way afterwards. |
