Yes that is all true. A certain degree of personal responsibility is required to minimise risk.

Pedestrians do take risks and probably don't see a cyclist as much of a threat. The thing is a cyclist is not a threat most of the time. A car is all of the time.

I once ended up in the Forth and Clyde canal in order to avoid a head on with a woman. I sacrificed myself to the water and filth! Everything and everyone survived except my phone.

Crossing the road is mission at times nowadays. The volume of cars makes it nearly impossible at times. Pedestrians have the right of way at all times regardless of the status of a traffic light. I wish drivers would understand this.

We should learn from other countries like Spain where there are white painted crossing points everywhere. In this country we have illuminated pedestrian crossings that cost a fortune when they should absolutely be not necessary.
