The bus is not that long. I have a zonecard which allows me to use the bus and trains. It's not cheap but it's convenient.
If you have free bus travel, I'd make the most out of that. 38 and 9 go from Paisley to Glasgow and take about 40 minutes. Train is about 10 minutes. But for free, I'd take the bus.
