It actually *is* the same fight.
A lot of gay people in the UK still have a shit time of it too. Its harder to get ivf; its harder to adopt; conversion therapy hasn't quite been outlawed yet. It's also completely impossible to be out in some industries. I know about these issues because I'm gay in addition to being trans, but also because I try and practice some fucking solidarity.
The conversion therapy thing is a good example actually. The transphobia being used to justify amending the bill to just affecting gay peope is also holding the whole proccess from going through. We are being divided and concoqured rn.
Trans people are the target right now but the gay people looking the other way; who do not speak out because they are not trans; well when we are gone who is gonna speak out for them? Or when its normalised to just generally legislate against gay people.
Again, its fine if you don't want to engage, but if you have the luxury of not engaging then you should check your privilege. You don't get to be self-righteous about it in any way. |
