God, the last thing we need is fewer councils. Local democracy in the UK is fucked as it is, compared to other countries in Europe, in terms of the number of constituents per councillor. We need more, smaller, better-funded councils with more powers.
I mean just look at the size of Highland, how anyone can think that Thurso and Mallaig should be in the same area I have no idea.
