When a political party marches the opposition gets angry because the country might change in a way they're unhappy with. Indyref, brexit, etc.
The orange order really doesn't have anything to offer either way. The only thing we have to gain by it ceasing to march in public is not being embarrassed of our city in the height of summer. That's a fairly small gain. On the other side, it continuing to march provides fuel for sectarian hatred, a drain on police resources, violence in the city centre, and a hostile atmosphere for everyone else. |
