They'd need to check if that's allowed. Standard Private Residential Tenancy says:
> Unless the Tenant has received prior written permission from the Landlord, the Tenant must not:
...
take in a lodger,
And
> When allowing a person to occupy the Let Property with the Tenant as that person's only or principal home, the Tenant must ensure that the Let Property does not become an unlicensed "house in multiple occupation"
If they were *buying* a property and taking in a lodger, they **don't** need to register as a landlord. |
