Comment | It predominantly depends on the neighbours - I'm first floor and wouldn't know the guy underneath me was there if I didn't occasionally hear him doing stuff outside in his garden but never heard a peep from him whilst inside. The guy upstairs is a guitar teacher and I can hear that, and when they've got folk over at the weekend or whenever for a drink. Fortunately (for me) I've been a horrendously noisy cunt over the years so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Sound conducts through the floor, which vibrates my ceiling but I've never really been in a flat where the folk downstairs have been the pain in the arse as the sound tends to be dampened by the air gap.

It'll also depend on a few other things, namely floor coverings, and whether or not the ash used to deaden the sound between the floors is still in place. If you do move in and it's bad (and carpeted), you could also look at getting acoustic underlay installed, I know it's a rental but I can't see it being too dear to buy it and get it laid and the original carpet put back over it, although I'm sure someone will be along to tell me I'm talking shite in a minute. |
